Alvaro has over 20 years of practical experience working with well-know nationally recognized firms in the fields of Design/Build, General Contracting, Precast Structural Engineering in the states of Texas, Colorado, and upstate New York. Mr. Garza has extensive experience in academics. For about 4 years, Mr. Garza held a position as a Professor in the School of Architecture and Planning at the undergraduate and graduate level (ITESM & UANL). Mr. Garza holds a B.S. in Architecture from Monterrey, Mexico (1986), Masters in Architecture form the University of Colorado at Denver (1990) and a Specialty in Real Estate Appraising from UANL (1996). Mr. Garza started his fascination with Environmental Technology, Energy analysis, building envelope and building performance. Edgar Martinez is from Queens, New York and has resided in the Syracuse area for the past 3 years. Mr. Martinez obtained his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Baruch College and has 17 years of industry experience in public accounting, corporate & statutory reporting, fiscal policy and management, health insurance administration, and life reinsurance administration. He is a certified public accountant since 1995 and a registered IRS tax preparer. |

Mark is new to the Spanish Action League Board(1-2011), but has followed the progress of La Liga closely and values the quality programs and services highly. Mark is a Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives for ProLiteracy, an international adult literacy and education organization headquartered in Syracuse. Mark is leading ProLiteracy's office relocation to the Near Westside at the end of 2011. Mark, and the ProLiteracy staff, are excited about the move and look forward to working with La Liga and others to support and enhance services and community development. |

James E. Brown has been with AXA-Equitable for 16 years, all with Equi-Vest New Business. His current assignment is managing the New Business Issue Team of the Equi-Vest Administration Office in Syracuse, New York. He relocated from New York City to Syracuse in 2005. He has an Associate's Degree from SUNY Canton, a Bachelor's Degree from Siena College, and an MBA from St. John's University. Bethaida Gonzalez (Bea)
Bethaida "Bea" González was born in Cayey, Puerto Rico, and is a long-time resident of Syracuse, New York. She has more than 20 years' experience in continuing education, as well as a distinguished record of public service. She is married and the mother of one. González joined University College (UC) in 1984 as an academic advisor and quickly rose through the ranks. After serving as associate dean at UC, she was appointed Interim Dean in 2004 and Dean in 2007. González has been elected to public office three times. In fall 2001, González became the first Latino/a to be elected president of the City of Syracuse Common Council. Previously, González was elected to the Board of Education for the Syracuse City School District. Among her many honors, González has been recognized as an Hispanic American of Distinction in New York State, and as an Unsung Heroine by the Central New York National Organization of Women. In 2005, she was honored by Peace Action of Central New York for "building bridges to peace." González received the Syracuse University Chancellor's Citation for Service in 2005, SU Women of Influence Award, 2005, "Entre Nosotras"Award, 2006, as well as the YWCA Academy of Diversity Achievers Award, 2007. González has a BA from SUNY Binghamton and a MA in PA from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. Mike Grogan is The Post-Standard's first breaking news editor. He oversees an assistant editor and a team of police, court, web and general news reporters. The team is charged with breaking stories on the web and then following up with fuller reports in the daily paper. Grogan graduated from the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University with a bachelor's in journalism in 1980. He received a master's in political science in 2004 from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University. He joined The Post-Standard in November 1982. In his 28 years at the paper, he has served in a variety of positions including reporter, metro editor and breaking news editor. He and his wife, Patti have two sons, Matt and Sean. Maria Revelles, Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Spain. Mother of five daughters, is a resident of the west side and an organizer for Service Employees International Union (SEIU) 1199. SEIU represents 1.5 million service workers, many of them health-care workers. Over the years, Maria Revelles has led some of the most successful service-union organizing campaigns across the United States and in Puerto Rico, developing also education and solidarity projects with labor organizations in the Dominican Republic mostly for women. Maria is the President of the board of the Spanish Action League and is a member of ACTS and the Near West side initiative .Also is the first Latina to serve in the Syracuse Hosing Authority Board of directors. She and her family relocated three years ago into Syracuse. She advocates forand develops leaders within the community and encourages them to speak out on issues important to them, such as education, health care and immigrant rights. Maria works for SEIU 1199, the largest union of health care workers in America. | ![]() |
